Recently, I spent time with my 6 year old god-daughter and for a moment I was a little jealous as she ran around laughing and playing without a care in the world… She excitedly whispered, to me I can’t wait to grow up so I can do whatever I want…..I looked her square in the eyes and said “kid…if only you knew…when you grow up you have to be responsible and pay bills…I wish I could be a kid again”. Her response to me was “you are silly Aunt Andrea”. That day she really made me think…If I could turn back time…I would handle money differently….First, I would have my parents open up a Savings Account so I could save some of the money I got for Christmas and birthdays. The money I earned from my weekend job at McDonald’s would be invested in a Roth IRA or the Stock Market. I would learn about credit and how it could be used to either help or hurt my financial future if I don’t use it correctly. I would learn how to Budget so I would know where and how my money is being spent. Finally, I would have the Power of Discipline to SAVE money so as an adult instead of working to pay the bills I can run around and play without a care in the world! This is what I will pass on to my god-daughter, family, friends, and the world!
